My husband and I both grew up camping, but we haven't done much of it together. We've really been wanting to get out there more, so about a year ago, we bought a little caravan! It's the perfect size for our little family. Her name is Tay-Tay (because it's a Jayco Swift? Get it?) We were excited to start camping and went on many adventures over the past year!
The first place we went, in January, was Echuca in northern Victoria. We stayed at Wakiti Creek Resort. There was no WIFI and no cell service, which is nice unless you're newbies like us and need to Google things about your caravan! Did you know they don't come with user manuals? We had to drive into town to watch a bunch of YouTube videos on our first day. Wakiti Creek was a really good caravan park, with a lovely pool and a pretty walk by the river. This is the first and only time we took the dogs along. They are pampered and apparently hate camping; they never slept. Each morning we were awakened by huge flocks of loud cockatoos!
The next place we went was one of the best campgrounds ever: Bimbi Park in the Otways. There were koalas everywhere! The park also had goats and chickens to feed scraps to. We took a long walk to Cape Otway Lightstation. It was really cool so see all the history and go up into the lighthouse. Also nearby is Seal Point, which is a beautiful spot to sit on the beach or explore rock pools.
For Easter, we took a short trip to Geelong and stayed at Tasman Holiday Park by the Barwon River. There is a great playground nearby and even a disc golf course. I didn't bring my camera this time; I wanted to enjoy the weekend. This photo of my daughter in a bunny suit jumping on the big jump pillow sums up the weekend nicely.
In the winter, we took a trip with friends to the Grampians. We stayed at the NRMA Halls Gap Holiday Park. It was a great spot, even though the weather was cold and wet the whole time. We visited some wineries and went on a short hike to a waterfall. The local market was huge and offered so much to try.
When the weather warmed up, we went to Anglesea with friends. I have never seen so many kangaroos hanging around a caravan park! It was really nice to be able to walk to the beach, but it was a bit cold the whole time we were there.
In November, we had a little stay in Macedon at the Macedon Caravan Park while Chris had a weekend job making pizzas at a local winery. That was by far the most quiet and laid-back caravan park I've been to. I practised some night photography while were there. My daughter and I explored the beautiful Forest Glade Gardens.
At the end of the year, we took our longest and furthest trip to Meningie, SA. This was our first time in South Australia! We spent a week at Lake Albert Caravan Park over New Year's. We took a day trip to Adelaide, where we saw the central market, beautiful parklands, and Henley Beach.
